California NOW is urging every woman and man to vote by mail or on June 3rd and to vote for progressive feminist like Tom Torlakson, Betty Yee, Dave Jones, Kamala Harris, John Chiang, Sandra Fluke, Tim Sbranti, and Erin Carlstrom.
Here’s Why: The flood of big money into our state’s top 2 primary system means that the June primary is vitally important for women because big money in statewide and so-called “safe” democratic districts is funding anti-woman, anti-worker, anti-environment Republicrats on the ballot across the state.
California NOW has coined the phrase Republicrat to describe so-called Democratic Party candidates who are financed by big money and once in office vote against the interests of their constituents, especially women and their families. We believe that part of big money’s plan is to destroy the Democratic Party brand, while they buy elected offices across the state.
Despite their efforts don’t be fooled by the Democratic Party label – Women and men cannot be distracted by red herring issues and most of all we cannot be apathetic - our vote matters more than ever on JUNE 3rd & NOVEMBER 4th because the flood of big money in California means every progressive feminist candidate is being challenged by a Republicrat.
This agenda is being helped along by corporate media outlets. For example, this week the Los Angeles Times editorial staff revealed themselves as corporatist ideologues. Despite an Everest size mountain of evidence against austerity economics, the editorial staff consistently describes as “responsible fiscal management “ drastic cuts in government services, sweetheart deals for corporations and the dogged pursuit of privatizing public assets and jobs and with it the elimination of defined benefit pension plans.
The Koch Brothers, Walmart, the Chamber of Commerce and the Health Insurance/Provider lobby led by Catholic Healthcare, among other anti-woman big money are backing anti-woman, anti-worker, anti-environment Republicans and Republicrats in California. That’s why women need to vote this June and November and every single year.
Women most of all are being targeted and hurt by Republicrats in Sacramento, whether it’s letting Catholic Healthcare expand across California, which is limiting women’s access to reproductive and end of life care no matter our income level, killing or vetoing bills that benefit women and their families, or balancing the budget on the backs of women and children.
California NOW knows that women and their families need good paying jobs. We need more teachers, nurses, doctors, long-term care, early education and childcare workers, not less. California NOW knows that women and their families deserve and voted for something better than what’s coming out of Sacramento.
Unfortunately the current group of Republicrats already in Sacramento have made sure good paying jobs and even not so good paying jobs that employ predominantly women are targeted for cuts and elimination. Make no mistake attacks on teachers and nurses are attacks on women and the work we do. It is not lost on California NOW that the only two professions dominated by women that still provide middle class wages have been relentlessly attacked by campaigns targeting both wages and worker protections.
The attacks on women’s jobs are unrelenting. For example, right now Mark Levine with the help of Marshall Tuck, Michelle Rhee and other so-called education reformers is trying to privatize and outsource teachers! Millions of dollars are being spent to make sure good jobs that have middle class wages and worker protections like teachers and nurses aren’t created and worst yet those that still exist are eliminated.
It doesn’t stop at teachers and nurses, there are too many in Sacramento that fail to equally value women and the work that we do. For example, it took 70 years to eliminate the “exception” to labor protections for care workers at the federal level, just to see Jerry Brown eliminate those protections in this year’s budget.
That’s what he LA Times editorial board believes is “good” education and economic policy – outsourcing teachers and forcing women to perform care work for free or next to nothing.
California NOW is here to let women know the real job and higher wage killers are the Koch Brothers, Walmart, the Chamber of Commerce and the Health Insurance/Provider lobby led by Catholic Healthcare. Each wants to make sure women and the work we do will always be worth less.
That’s why progressive women and men need to know that the Los Angeles Times wants you to either vote for the Republican or the Republicrat. The purpose is to eliminate the progressive feminist at the June 3rd primary while most voters are not paying attention.
