Every day, trucks criss-cross America, hauling goods we depend on to stores in our cities and towns. Even though they're just 4 percent of vehicles on the roads, these heavy- and medium duty trucks use 20 percent of our fuel. We need to use the technology out there to make these trucks cleaner. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation are considering the first-ever national fuel standards for these trucks. This could make a world of difference. Better fuel standards mean cleaner air and help reduce our dependence on oil. Tell EPA and DOT to set truck fuel standards so we can ship it green!
The U.S. is one of the largest retail markets for imported ivory, and therefore a major driver of elephant poaching in Africa. This is possible because of loopholes in Endangered Species Act protections. Elephants are being slaughtered in record numbers. It's shameful that the U.S. would support the slaughter of African elephants and allow an illegal ivory trade to flourish under the radar. We need YOUR voice to help save elephants TODAY. Tell President Obama to stop supporting the slaughter of African elephants by reforming U.S. ivory trade regulations.
Despite laws in both Finland and Sweden that prevent it, the reindeer husbandry industry subjects its animals to immense suffering. As reindeer husbandry has become more commercial, hunters have begun using snowmobiles and helicopters to herd the animals onto trucks. During the rest of the process, reindeer are mishandled and often starved. Sweden and Finland have both written laws to protect animals from this kind of cruel treatment. Plus, they both signed the Vaxjo Declaration, which states that animals have intrinsic value and should be respected. These countries need to live up to the ideals they've signed onto and the laws on their books. Please help the reindeer: Tell the Nordic Council of Ministers to hold Sweden and Finland accountable!
