Dear Madams: I am amazed that you would critize Jerry Brown and threaten not to endorse him. Meg Whitman, as a Mormon woman, will and cannot advocate for women's rights. She cannot advocate for abortion rights, birth control, women's family planning rights and decisions. She cannot because to do so would violate her Mormon religious beliefs. NOW needs to do their research. NOW must know that much of Whitman's campaign is financed, not by her personal money, but by the Mormon Church.

CA NOW

Perhaps you misread the links above; at no time did the California NOW PAC threaten not to endorse Brown. In fact, the endorsement of Brown had been decided before the audio tape of his female staffer using the term "whore" had been released.

It is unacceptable that in our political dialogue the only word used as a descriptor for unethical pandering behavior is one that seeks to denigrate sex workers, and that has historically been used to target women more than men. However, usage of the word "whore" to describe someone behaving unethically is also commonplace, as it was used by Ex-Governor Pete Wilson (one of Meg Whitman's campaign staff) to refer to Congress, and by Whitman supporters to refer to Gloria Allred.

While our organization seeks to end sexist language completely, we also see this as a deliberate distraction from the real issues at stake for California women in this race.

Cheryl Brown

You might as well change your slogan above to "Working to Advance the Non-Republican women and girls of California". That would be much more honest.

Or another "Working to Advance the women and girls of California who support the murder of the unborn". That would be good too.

Give me some time and I can come up with a lot more.

It is sad that an organization that is supposed to represent and promote the dignity of all women has sunk to a level that they will only support women who agree with their leaders' own personal political views. Don't all women have the freedom to hold and voice their own personal and politcal views? Shouldn't we denounce name calling of anyone as demeaning and belittling? I teach my girls that all humans have dignity and the right to their views; you can disagree but it is never okay to call someone a derogatory name.

CA NOW

Everyone agrees it's wrong to use that kind of language. Jerry Brown has personally apologized to Meg Whitman, and yesterday, Meg Whitman accepted his apology and said it's time to move on. We agree.

BJK

Everyone agrees about the use of "whore" by Brown but the CA now prez.

Maybe the old saying "it takes one to know one" is true.

Ms. Bellasalma: Perhaps Ms. Whitman is a nasty word, but you are the EPITOME of what we Italians call "Bruta Putana"! Except you even keep the "change"!

You expose yourself for being the Hypocritical BEACH that you are: A CHANCRE on the face of REAL women, like Sarah Palin, rights! You're nothing but a Democrat LAP DOG and Hermaphoradite.

California NOW as well as the organization as a whole are simply irrelevant. You can not profess to support women's rights while singling out a woman saying it's alright to call her a whore.

Women should run like hell from your pitiful organization, unless of course they like yourself (Patty) are nothing but a far-left liberal hiding behind the smokescreen of the NOW Organization.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Would you also find it alright to have a liberal use the N-word against a black? Same difference.

I forgot to mention you should really think about changing your name/logo to NOLW to reflect what your organization really stands for, simply add "L" for Liberal and it would be more appropriate.

No wonder most people place your organization in the same class as other 'nuts' like Code-Pink, you're nothing but promoting a liberal agenda, all else is secondary.

Amazing! Your organization just took a nose-dive into obsolescence. Isn't your organization supposed to support all women who are being abused, denigrated, humiliated and oppressed? But like Paula Jones, we see that the only women you ACTUALLY support are those who are liberal, usually Democrat, women who are required to subscribe to your political agenda PRIOR to receiving your attention.

I find it comical that you state....

"It is unacceptable that in our political dialogue the only word used as a descriptor for unethical pandering behavior is one that seeks to denigrate sex workers, and that has historically been used to target women more than men."

**Let me point out that the word "WHORE" has been used exclusively for women until recent decades. Look it up in the dictionary. I can't believe you are even TRYING to get away with the idea that the term is tied to men at all.**

"While our organization seeks to end sexist language completely, we also see this as a deliberate distraction from the real issues at stake for California women in this race."

**Can anyone say, "VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY???" If you really wanted to end it and support WOMEN, you would have NEVER validated this word.****

I am a LATINA woman, the first generation to graduate from college on my mother's side of the family. I am also a CONSERVATIVE FEMINIST. Yes, there are a lot of us out there. I know one thing for sure, I will never expect or rely on "NOW" to ever come to my defense and your organization is the LAST one I would ever ask.

After all, you chose to champion Jerry Brown over Meg Whitman and Bill Clinton over Paula Jones. You have a wonderful tract record.

I think all of you need to go back to your mission statement and philosophy. You have completely lost sight of your agenda. When you do the re-write....try to slip the word, "integrity" in there somewhere.

Tiggrrl

I can't help noticing how absent all of you now-outraged people were when Meg Whitman supporters were calling Gloria Allred a "media whore." Apparently you're fine with using the word, just not when it's directed towards *your* candidate.

You can't have it both ways; either it's legitimate to use it in describing someone you feel has sold out, or it isn't. The fact is that the word gets used to describe male politicians as well (see Pete Wilson using it to describe all of Congress), and it's a product of our sexist culture that it's considered more derogatory when directed at women.

Christy Henerey

So one of Jerry Browns staffers called Meg Whitman a whore and you do nothing? No pulling any funding from him, nothing.

Fine, you two faced whores, we outside of your morally and ethically bankrupt state get it. Please dont scream about equal rights, you only want equality when it suits you.
