Imagine waking up after Election Day to learn that California’s global warming law was effectively repealed, all because Texas oil companies spent millions fooling California voters to support their deceptive ballot proposition, Prop. 23.

Updating the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is crucial to the health of our kids because, currently TSCA lacks a requirement that chemicals be tested to assess their ability to disrupt hormones. This means that many of the chemicals we encounter every day have never been tested for safety. In fact, since the passage of TSCA in 1976, the EPA has required testing of less than 1 percent of the chemicals in commerce! The TSCA update would require chemical manufacturers to provide basic health and safety information for all chemicals as a condition for staying in or entering the marketplace. It would also, for the first time, make that information public. Tell Congress to protect the healthy childhoods of America’s children by co-sponsoring an update to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
Last week, another oil rig 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana exploded.
Hundreds of thousands of people demanded a moratorium on all off-shore
oil drilling after the BP disaster in April. Unfortunately, what we got
was full of loopholes that allowed work to continue on this rig and many
others. CLICK HERE TO ADD YOUR NAME to a campaign to put a REAL moratorium on this dirty, dangerous practice.
The
Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act, S.3663, would address
drilling reforms to prevent disasters like this in the future. Its
provisions include improving offshore drilling management and crisis
response, as well as finally guaranteeing funding for the Land and Water
Conservation Fund -- an important tool for preserving and restoring
habitat for Gulf wildlife and other animals. Urge your Senators to support the Clean Energy Jobs and Accountability Act.
Sarah Palin has a solution to the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico: drill more and drill now in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Apparently Palin is missing something. ANWR is an international treasure. Caribou, moose, wolves and millions of migratory birds live in this wild place. It's up to us to keep this wilderness free of oil rigs and oil spills. Send a letter to Secretary Salazar letting him know that there is no fail safe way to drill for oil, offshore or on land.
This summer, a federal court in Alaska found that the Bush
administration violated the law when it approved oil and gas leasing in
Alaska's Chukchi sea without sufficient information and analysis about
risks to the Arctic environment. Yet, President Obama's administration
has so far failed to revisit protections for the Chukchi — Arctic
waters off Alaska's coast that are home to some of America's remaining
polar bears and key to the survival of Inupiat Eskimo communities. Please
urge President Obama to take action now to save polar bears, bowhead
whales and other wildlife — and the Alaska Native communities that rely
on them to survive — by preventing the next offshore drilling disaster.
The California Apollo Program is a blueprint for moving California towards broadly shared economic prosperity, energy security, and climate stability while reinforcing the state's commitment to a new clean energy future. Read The California Apollo Program and become a supporter: Sign the pledge!
It's time to stop giving dirty fuels an unfair advantage, and let people decide which energy sources they want to use. Sign the Solar Bill of Rights to make sure solar energy gets a fair chance to lead our clean energy future!
Wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies won a major
victory when a court reinstated federal protection for them. But wolves
still desperately need our help! But Secretary Salazar even tried to
remove Northern Rockies wolves from the endangered species list! Idaho
officials want to kill hundreds of wolves, and Montana is likely to
follow. Wyoming is pursuing a shoot-on-sight wolf "management" plan. Let Salazar know: we want a science-based plan for wolf recovery TODAY.
The loggerhead sea turtle experienced an dramatic decline during the last ten years: an 80 percent decrease in the North Pacific and a 40 percent decline in the Northwest Atlantic, their most popular nesting spot. Fortunately, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently proposed to change the status of the North Pacific and Northwest Atlantic loggerhead sea turtles from threatened to endangered under the Endangered Species Act. Now is the time to speak up for sea turtles and sign the petition to list loggerheads as endangered.
Due to high consumer demand, bluefin tuna are being caught faster than
they can reproduce. Right now, this beautiful, majestic fish teeters on
the brink of extinction unless we take action. Protect bluefin tuna and the oceans they rely on for survival.
America's Great Outdoors is an unprecedented conservation effort spearheaded by President Obama and several government agencies to reconnect people with nature. The Obama administration wants your input to create this blueprint for the future of conservation in America, and members of his cabinet have been traveling around the country this summer listening to our ideas about conservation. Please tell the Obama Administration to make wilderness, new parks and monuments, and restoration of wetlands and wildlife habitat the cornerstone of America's Great Outdoors.
President Obama is developing a new conservation initiative that could
help protect the fields, forests, lakes, and rivers that make up our
unique American landscape. But he needs the support of as many people as
possible. Forward this message to your friends, then tell President
Obama what you think! Click here to urge President Obama to protect America's lands and waters by September 30.
